Mungo Brush. One of our favourite places, it’s easy to get to, just over 2.5 hours north from Sydney on the F3/M1, there is a great camping area, if you can get a spot that is and a beautiful beach which you can still drive on. If you are there before or after the ranger comes it is also a free camping spot.
Travel north along the F3/M1, heading towards Hawks Nest. Once at Hawks Nest follow the Beach Road and continue until you see the sign for one of the many campsites. This isn’t really a 4WD destination unless you intend to travel on the beach. Most campsites are power free so you must be able to fend for yourself. There are open fire pits with cooking grates over them, we however, have yet to use any of these.
It’s a great place to visit and is one of our staples in summer, going quite often, not only for the surfing, just to be able to hang out and relax.
