The Brindabella Ranges are about 1hr drive west of Canberra (the hour being to the National Park sign). There are some great 4wd tracks and also a few campsites located within, there is also a few different entry and exits to access it. Coming from Sydney, it is south to Canberra and west or via Yass going west and then south, in other words not a straight drive either way. After our first time here, despite what we had read and researched we don’t classify it as a weekend getaway from Sydney.
Despite only reaching about 1,400 metres in height we thought it was every bit as hard and steep as our Victorian High Country trip. It made for some really slow and tough going, especially with the trailer in tow, it would also be very difficult terrain when wet.
