Newnes is located in the Wollemi National Park. It takes roughly 3 hours from Narrabeen, heading along the M2 then M7, then taking the M4 towards the Mountains. You take the turn off towards Mudgee, then follow this until you reach Lidsdale, which is 7km west of Lithgow. Follow this for a short distance, finally reaching the steep, windy decline into the Wolgan Valley. Eventually you hit dirt road, which is suitable for 2WD, which takes you into Newnes. It is a staple for us, with or without the kids, as we know where we are going even if we arrive in the dark. It is situated along the Wolgan River.
There are numerous campgrounds, however the first ground, located near the Newnes Hotel is quite popular as it can be reached by 2WD. There is a ford to cross to reach the other campgrounds in the area. There is one large one, then along the trail towards the Ruins, there are smaller grounds, which are more private.
